SRINAGAR: The Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation (HPTC) has temporarily suspended its bus services on the Chamba-Doda route due to recent militant attacks in the neighboring Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was made with passenger safety as the priority, just days after the service commenced on July 2.

The suspension follows a militant attack on the Indian Army in Doda on Monday, which resulted in the tragic death of four soldiers. In response to the heightened security threat, the Himachal Pradesh Police and the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) have increased vigilance and established checkpoints along the 216 km border shared between Chamba and Doda.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Abhishek Trivedi, emphasized the importance of coordination with central agencies, the Indian Army, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police to ensure proactive security measures are in place. Local residents, including shepherds who traverse between Chamba and Doda, have been urged to remain cautious. Despite receiving intelligence inputs, officials have refrained from disclosing specifics about suspected militant movements in Himachal Pradesh.

An official from the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) mentioned that the decision to suspend the Chamba-Doda bus service was driven by safety concerns. Normally, the bus departs daily from Chamba at 6:30 am, halts overnight in Doda, and returns the following morning. The service will only resume once the security situation stabilizes in the Doda district.
