Microsoft Enhances Copilot AI with Indian Regional Languages
Key Highlights:
- New Indian regional languages added to Copilot for Microsoft 365.
- Expansion aims to make AI tool more accessible for non-English users.
- Copilot integration extended to Telegram and Microsoft Launcher.
Microsoft is bolstering its AI chatbot Copilot for Microsoft 365 by adding support for new Indian regional languages. This move aims to accurately understand queries and generate responses in languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, and Telugu. The tech giant’s decision to expand language support underscores its commitment to making AI tools more accessible for users whose primary language is not English.
In a press release on Wednesday, Microsoft announced the addition of regional Indic languages to Copilot, emphasizing its efforts to broaden accessibility. While the full list of supported languages has not been disclosed, this expansion is not limited to India but also includes other countries globally. Previously, Copilot supported 27 languages but did not include any Indian regional languages.
Microsoft highlights that this increased language support will enable users to converse with Copilot and receive responses in their native language. This feature is particularly beneficial for students, small businesses, and native language speakers who faced barriers due to language limitations.
Pavan Kumar Verma, Regional Business Head at Embee Software, a leading Microsoft LSP partner in India, emphasized the inclusivity aspect of integrating regional languages into technology. He stated, “By integrating regional languages, we’re making technology more inclusive and accessible. Our goal is to ensure that everyone, regardless of language, can benefit from AI advancements.”
In addition to language support, Microsoft is expanding Copilot’s integration into different apps. The AI chatbot is now available on Telegram in beta, with a daily message limit of 30 turns. Furthermore, Copilot has been integrated into the Microsoft Launcher app for Android, further extending its reach and accessibility to users across various platforms.
