Verma stressed Indians’ prerogative to determine India’s future and urged those abroad to participate in the democratic process. He underscored the need for mutual understanding and respect between strategic partners, urging both countries to address each other’s concerns.
Amid escalating tensions, Verma’s remarks mark India’s stance on recent events, including the arrest of three Indian nationals in connection with a Sikh separatist leader’s killing. India also condemned a parade float in Ontario glorifying violence and raised concerns over the security of its diplomatic representatives in Canada.
The Ministry of External Affairs called upon the Canadian government to prevent criminals from finding refuge and ensure the safety of Indian diplomats. Incidents of Khalistani extremism in Canada have strained bilateral relations, prompting India to urge Canada to address the issue effectively.
