Air India Penalized for Violating Flight Regulations
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) imposes an Rs 80 lakh fine on Air India Limited for breaching regulations related to Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) and fatigue management system (FMS) for flight crew.
Spot Audit Reveals Non-Compliance
In January, DGCA conducted a spot audit of Air India Limited to ensure regulatory compliance regarding FDTL and FMS regulations. Evidence collected and fleet-wise random reports analyzed during the audit uncovered violations.
The analysis revealed instances where Air India operated flights with flight crew above 60 years old flying together, a violation of aviation rules. Additionally, deficiencies were found in providing adequate rest before and after ultra-long-range flights, weekly rest, and rest during layovers, contravening Civil Aviation Requirements.
Penalty Imposed After Unsatisfactory Response
Despite issuing a show-cause notice on March 1, 2024, and receiving a response from Air India Limited, the DGCA found the operator’s explanation unsatisfactory. Consequently, a fine of Rs 80 lakh was imposed on the airline.
