Delhi Excise Policy Case: Court Grants Accused More Document Inspection Time
The Rouse Avenue court granted additional time for the inspection of un-relied documents to the accused individuals involved in the Delhi Excise policy money laundering case. Additionally, the court disposed of an application by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the alleged delay in the trial caused by the accused persons.
Court Proceedings and Extensions
The judicial custody of Manish Sisodia, one of the accused, was extended until April 6, the next hearing date. AAP MP Sanjay Singh was exempted from appearing in court on Monday due to his commitment to take the oath of Rajya Sabha. The special judge M K Nagpal granted more time for the accused persons to inspect documents at the ED office and disposed of the ED’s application alleging delay on their part.
Allegations and Responses
The ED had moved a plea on March 7, alleging a delay in trial caused by the accused persons and seeking their cooperation. The agency argued that the accused individuals were filing applications for various documents without substantive reasons, causing unnecessary delays. However, the accused persons refuted these allegations, asserting their legal rights.
The court has asked the accused to file their replies within three working days. The ED also claimed that information provided to the accused was being misused by AAP leaders to defame the investigating agency in the media, further complicating the trial process. It stated that such actions were tactics employed by the accused to burden the agency and delay the trial proceedings.
The case pertains to allegations of kickbacks collected from liquor groups in the Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. The ED has alleged conspiracy involving Sanjay Singh and his associates, leading to losses to the state exchequer and violations of anti-corruption laws. The investigation has seen multiple chargesheets filed by the ED, targeting key conspirators and associated individuals. The case remains under scrutiny, with further developments expected in subsequent hearings.
