Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Hanif Abbasi, both influential leaders within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Members of the National Assembly, have stepped forward to endorse Dar’s candidacy.

Ishaq Dar’s decision comes amidst the backdrop of the impending Senate elections scheduled for April 2. With 48 vacant seats up for contention across various assemblies, candidates are rushing to meet the March 16 deadline for submitting their nomination papers.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the election timetable, outlining the polling schedule from 9 am to 4 pm on April 2. Candidates have until Saturday to submit their papers to returning officers, with scrutiny set for March 19. A revised candidate list will be issued on March 26, giving nominees until March 27 to withdraw their papers.

In the federal capital, the National Assembly members will elect representatives for one general seat and one technocrat seat, including representation for Ulema.

It’s important to highlight that the current Senate’s six-year term is set to expire on Tuesday, leaving 52 seats in the upper house of parliament vacant.

To ensure a smooth electoral process, the Election Commission of Pakistan has appointed polling officers, with seven officers each assigned to the National Assembly and Punjab Assembly, and six officers each designated for the provincial assemblies of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, four polling officers have been appointed for the Balochistan Assembly, as reported by ARY News.
