Punjab Police Thwarts Potential Target Killings

In a significant development, the Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, announced on Thursday that the Punjab Police has successfully averted potential target killings with the arrest of two members belonging to a terror module backed by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). The module was operating under the influence of Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passian, based in the USA, who is known to be a close aide of the Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh, alias Rinda. Another associate, Shamsher Singh, also known as Shera, is presently based in Armenia.

Successful Operation and Recovery of Weapons

According to DGP Yadav, the arrests were made in an intelligence-based operation, and two pistols, along with four magazines and 30 live cartridges, were recovered from the apprehended individuals. The DGP highlighted that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Arms Act at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.

Radicalization Efforts and Collusion with Terrorists

He further revealed that preliminary investigations indicate that Happy Passian was working in collusion with Rinda and Shamsher to radicalize youth, motivating them to engage in anti-national activities within the state. This successful operation follows the recent proactive efforts by Amritsar Police in solving a gunhouse theft case, recovering 12 weapons and 22 cartridges after a chase spanning over 1000 kilometers across five states.

Cracking Down on International Drug Cartel

Additionally, on March 3, the Jalandhar Police dealt a significant blow to an international narcotic network, busting an international drug cartel and arresting three individuals with 5 kg of opium. The cartel was supported by multiple smugglers utilizing an international courier service to target recipients in the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia. An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act, with investigations ongoing to establish backward and forward linkages.
