His demise marked the second fatality from Bathinda in these protests, following the death of Subhkaran Singh, 21, during a clash with the police. Farmer leaders insist on a case registration before Darshan Singh’s cremation.

Persistent Farmer Protests: Government’s Offer Rejected

Despite setbacks, farmer leaders remain resolute in their demands. Recent talks with the government yielded no resolution, as farmers seek MSP coverage for all 23 cash crops and legal guarantees. The government’s offer of a five-year contract to buy specific crops at the old MSP was rejected. The ongoing protests pose a challenge for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, especially with a general election looming. Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda urged patience, cautioning against external forces attempting to “hijack” the protests.
