Socio-Political Activist Mohammad Altaf Dar Expresses Concern Over Tough Economic Times in UT J&K
Srinagar, Jan 29: In a press statement, prominent socio-political activist and senior trade union leader Mohammad Altaf Dar expressed concern over the challenging economic conditions in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the increasing prices, particularly in electricity, making it difficult for ordinary citizens to manage their bills.
Solar Companies’ Upfront Costs and Environmental Concerns
Dar acknowledged the efforts of numerous solar companies aiming to promote clean and affordable energy. However, he pointed out that while solar panels can save money in the long run, the initial cost is a significant barrier, limiting access mainly to affluent individuals and community welfare groups. Additionally, Dar raised concerns about the potential environmental impact of solar panels, emphasizing the need for effective recycling methods.
Call for Community-Focused Approach by Solar Companies
In response to these challenges, Dar urged solar companies in UT J&K to consider the affordability of their products. Instead of heavy investments in advertisements and celebrity endorsements, he suggested a community-focused approach. Donating solar panels to schools, hospitals, and non-profits could be a mutually beneficial strategy. It would support these organizations in their community service while enhancing the positive reputation of solar companies.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Advocacy
Dar proposed that solar companies prioritize Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives over flashy advertising campaigns. By demonstrating genuine care for the community, companies could build a positive image and garner long-term support. Dar emphasized that a strong commitment to CSR might be a more sustainable path for these companies, fostering a positive public perception.
