Congress Faces Internal Discontent over Clashes with TMC During Yatra in Bengal
Jairam Ramesh, a Congress leader, acknowledged internal discontent among party workers due to clashes with Trinamool Congress (TMC) at the ground level during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. While emphasizing Mamata Banerjee’s role in the INDIA alliance, he expressed concerns about the clashes between TMC and Congress workers at the grassroots level. Ramesh explained the need for a national-level alliance, urging unity despite regional differences.
National-Level Alliance vs. State-Level Rivalry: Balancing Act for Congress
Ramesh clarified that alliances are essential at the national level, even if intra-state rivalries persist, citing the example of Kerala where Congress confronts leftists. He stressed the importance of finding a balance between state-level competition and national collaboration to strengthen the alliance.
Yatra Progress and Upcoming Plans
Discussing the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’s progress, Ramesh outlined the route from West Bengal to Bihar, with plans to enter Jharkhand on January 31. He highlighted the significance of the yatra and expressed satisfaction with the unexpected turnout in Jalpaiguri and Siliguri, demonstrating the energy and excitement among the people.
Ramesh further noted the positive trend in Congress’ stronghold areas, expressing optimism about the support from Hamro Party in Darjeeling. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, covering over 6,700 kilometers and 110 districts, symbolizes the Congress party’s national outreach strategy.
