ISRO’s POEM-3 Successfully Accomplishes Payload Objectives
In a significant achievement, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that its space platform, POEM-3 (PSLV Orbital Experimental Module-3), has successfully fulfilled all its payload objectives. The platform, utilizing the spent PS4 stage of the PSLV-C58 rocket, completed 400 orbits by the 25th day in orbit. With contributions from various entities, including Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Physical Research Laboratory, academia, and space start-ups, POEM-3 proved to be a unique and cost-effective platform.
Versatile Three-Axis-Attitude Controlled Platform
POEM-3 is described as a three-axis-attitude controlled platform with power generation, telecommand, and telemetry capabilities. The platform supported nine payloads, showcasing its versatility and efficiency. Over the 25-day period, each payload was successfully activated, demonstrating their planned performance. The platform is expected to continue orbiting for approximately 73 more days before re-entering Earth’s atmosphere.
Zero Debris: A Sustainable Space Mission
ISRO highlighted the sustainability aspect of the mission, stating that with the anticipated re-entry of POEM-3 in the next 75 days, the PSLV-C58 XPoSat mission would leave zero debris in space. Notable experiments, including Xenon-Based Electric Propulsion and Green Propellant Thruster, were conducted successfully. The data collected from various payload experiments will contribute to future missions, emphasizing ISRO’s commitment to advancing space exploration technology.
