External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the interconnectedness of the country’s foreign policy, foreign economic policy, and foreign commerce policy, emphasizing that these facets are not disparate but integral phases of a unified policy. Speaking at the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Utsav Celebration in the national capital, he praised the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative, recognizing its representation of India’s diverse heritage in a distinctive and tangible manner.

Jaishankar lauded the collaboration between the commerce minister and the foreign minister, highlighting the positive impact reflected in the country’s exports, reaching their highest levels. He attributed this success significantly to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s leadership, stressing that the joint efforts of the commerce ministry, foreign ministry, and the Prime Minister’s involvement in promoting exports have yielded remarkable results.

The minister underscored the essential role of ODOP in aligning India’s readiness for global engagement and making the world receptive to India’s offerings. He hailed ODOP as not just an economic endeavor but a representation of livelihood, employment, and cultural traditions. Jaishankar highlighted how ODOP’s unique identification of products with their places of origin and traditions has been showcased on a global stage through initiatives like the G20.

He commended the government’s approach in presenting a comprehensive picture of India to the world by integrating ODOP into the G20 agenda, organized across 60 different cities representing every state and union territory. Jaishankar emphasized that this strategic move was aimed at making India globally competitive while promoting its unique regional diversity. He concluded by affirming that the G20’s role in highlighting ODOP globally aligns with India’s vision of preparing the nation for global engagement while making the world open to India’s distinctive offerings.
