Indian Warship INS Kadmatt Strengthens Maritime Ties During Visit to Thailand’s Bangkok Port
Indian warship INS Kadmatt recently docked at Bangkok port in Thailand, marking a significant move to bolster maritime cooperation between India and Thailand in the North Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea. This visit aims to enhance interoperability and foster closer ties between the navies of both nations, as announced by the Ministry of Defence.
During its stay, various harbour activities are scheduled, including cross-ship visits by personnel from the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) Academy, along with a planning conference for the maritime partnership exercise (MPX). The Chief of the Naval Staff, Adm R Hari Kumar, is scheduled to visit INS Kadmatt on December 21 to engage with the ship’s crew, the Ministry added.
INS Kadmatt, the second of India’s four indigenous Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) corvettes, was commissioned on January 7, 2016. It has actively participated in joint naval exercises with allied nations, contributing to regional security and nurturing maritime relationships. The vessel is equipped with cutting-edge weaponry and sensors, enabling it to undertake a wide spectrum of missions. It operates under the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy, stationed in Visakhapatnam, and operates under the command of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
Adm R Hari Kumar leads a three-member Indian Naval delegation attending the 8th edition of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) Conclave of Chiefs (CoC). Hosted by the Royal Thai Navy in Bangkok from December 19-22, this event is attended by Chiefs of Navies and Heads of Maritime Agencies from IONS countries. During the conclave, the chairmanship of IONS will be passed from France to Thailand. Additionally, INS Kadmatt will engage in an MPX with HTMS Rattanakosin, a corvette of the Royal Thai Navy, after departing from Bangkok.
Parallel to the IONS Conclave, a seminar focusing on the ‘Blue Economy’ is being conducted, emphasizing sustainable development among member states. Various bilateral interactions are planned to enhance maritime cooperation and understanding among IONS countries.
Established in 2008 by the Indian Navy, IONS serves as an open forum promoting maritime cooperation and discussion on regional maritime issues among Indian Ocean littoral states. It aims to foster common understanding and collaboration among member nations for the region’s sustainable maritime future, the Ministry highlighted in its press release.
