SC to Rule on Article-370, J&K Urges Peaceful Respect
On Monday, the Supreme Court is expected to announce its decision on the constitutional validity of the Centre’s revocation of Article 370. In Jammu and Kashmir, there is a spectrum of sentiments regarding the potential restoration of this provision. Local authorities claim to have implemented sufficient security measures, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining peace.
Ravinder Raina, the Jammu and Kashmir President of the BJP, expressed confidence that the Supreme Court’s verdict would depoliticize the issue. He emphasized the importance of respecting the judiciary, stating, “We are all citizens of this democratic country, and everyone should respect and accept whatever decision the honorable Supreme Court takes.”The BJP calls for universal respect for the Supreme Court ruling, emphasizing the need to avoid political exploitation. National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah assured that his party would maintain peace regardless of the verdict.

He underscored the commitment to a peaceful legal battle, stating, “Our fight will be peaceful and as per the Constitution, taking the help of the law to protect our rights and preserve our identity.”Mehbooba Mufti, president of the People’s Democratic Party, insisted that the court’s decision should unequivocally declare the BJP-led government’s action as “illegal.” Both the National Conference and the PDP, part of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, seek the reinstatement of Article 370.Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed optimism about the Supreme Court favoring the people.
He highlighted that only Parliament and the Supreme Court could restore Articles 370 and 35A. Azad acknowledged the non-partisan nature of the Supreme Court and hoped for a decision in favor of the people.Authorities on the ground claimed to have implemented adequate security measures to maintain peace. Inspector General of Police V K Birdi stated that specific security details were not disclosed but emphasized that necessary precautions had been taken.
The Supreme Court, after reserving its verdict in September, is set to deliver it on December 11. The five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, will announce the decision.
The bench heard petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370, with various parties presenting their arguments.
