IN-SPACe Launches Seed Fund Scheme for Space Tech Startups
The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), in a groundbreaking move, has introduced a new seed fund scheme aimed at startups in the realms of Urban Development and Disaster Management using space technology. This initiative, a collaboration between IN-SPACe and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), opens up new avenues for private entities to harness space technology for the greater good of society.
Fostering Innovation and Societal Benefits
Pawan Goenka, Chairman of IN-SPACe, highlighted that this scheme is part of a broader effort to amplify India’s space activity capabilities through active startup participation. The scheme is tailored to support Indian space startups that are focused on creating innovative space-based products and services, ultimately enhancing quality of life both in India and globally. With a deadline for applications set for December 20, the program offers selected startups seed funding to transform ideas into prototypes, utilizing space technology and facilities provided by ISRO. This includes Earth Observation data for concept validation, mentorship, and access to technology and data algorithms from the Department of Space.
Opportunities in Urban and Disaster Management
For startups operating in urban development, the scheme presents a myriad of possibilities, including urban planning, infrastructure management, telecommunications, and public health. It emphasizes the development of solutions in areas like water resources management, energy efficiency, and climate monitoring. In the domain of disaster management, the scheme opens doors for startups specializing in GIS, early warning systems, insurance, and risk assessment, among other areas. This initiative promises to bolster disaster response capabilities through advanced technology applications, marking a significant step forward in India’s space technology landscape.
The IN-SPACe Seed Fund Scheme not only offers financial support up to Rs 1 crore but also extends comprehensive mentorship, training, and networking opportunities, paving the way for a new era in space technology development and application in India.
