Controversy Erupts as Rajasthan Minister Blames Love Affair for Teen’s Suicide.
KOTA, Rajasthan – The recent suicide of a 16-year-old girl at her hostel in Kota has stirred controversy, with Rajasthan minister Shanti Dhariwal attributing the tragedy to a love affair. The girl’s grieving father, however, has vehemently demanded evidence to support this claim.
Minister’s Controversial Statement
Minister Dhariwal raised eyebrows when he asserted during a press conference that a letter left behind by the girl suggested a love affair as the cause of her suicide. Local police authorities, on the other hand, reported that no such letter or suicide note was found in the girl’s room, where she allegedly hanged herself on a fateful Tuesday night.
Questions Surrounding the Claim
The minister’s comments during the press conference, which he held alongside Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, extended to suggest that “parental pressure” played a role in the spate of suicides among students in Kota, a renowned coaching hub.
Father Seeks Proof
The father of the deceased, Richa, who had been aspiring to clear the NEET examination, promptly arrived in Kota from Ranchi upon receiving the tragic news. In a statement to the media, he vehemently contested Minister Dhariwal’s remarks and demanded concrete evidence to substantiate the allegations. “My daughter did not have an affair. If he (Dhariwal) has any such evidence, he should share it with me,” stated a grief-stricken Ravindra Sinha.
Concerns Over Student Safety
Sinha also revealed that his daughter had previously complained about facing harassment from some boys in Kota while commuting to and from her coaching institute. Furthermore, he expressed dissatisfaction with the counseling facilities provided to coaching students in the city.
Official Denials and Investigation
Despite the minister’s claims, Circle Inspector Davesh Bhardwaj, who is leading the investigation, denied recovering any suicide note from Richa’s hostel room. He categorically refuted the assertion that a love affair triggered the girl’s suicide, emphasizing the absence of any evidence to support such a theory.
Family’s Decision
Ultimately, the girl’s family decided to conduct her last rites at an electric crematorium in Kota. The tragic incident has cast a shadow on the coaching hub, as Richa became the 23rd student to take their own life in Kota this year, marking the highest number of suicides ever recorded in the country’s coaching capital. Last year, this number stood at 15.
