Coordinated Raids Uncover Human Trafficking Syndicates

In a significant operation on November 8, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted coordinated raids in ten states and union territories, exposing human trafficking modules and detaining 44 individuals across four cases. This extensive nationwide action also led to the dismantling of five human trafficking networks operating in different states.

Jammu Emerges as a Hub for Human Trafficking

One of the active modules discovered during the raids was situated in Jammu and was reportedly involved in human trafficking activities in Vidhata Nagar at Bhatindi in the Jammu district and Teli Basti in Bari Brahmana area of Samba district. The primary suspect, Zaffar Alam, son of Mohammad Nazir and a resident of Vidhata Nagar, has been detained for questioning. Shockingly, some of these modules included Rohingyas actively participating in human trafficking operations. Their tactics involved facilitating the illegal infiltration of individuals, including women, from the Myanmar border into several states and subsequently supplying them to “influential persons” at a substantial cost.

NIA’s Comprehensive Operation Targets Human Trafficking Support Networks

According to an NIA spokesman, the operation was executed in close coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) and state police forces. It aimed to disrupt illegal human trafficking support networks responsible for the infiltration and settlement of illegal migrants along the Indo-Bangladesh border into India. This operation was initiated following the registration of four human trafficking cases in NIA branches located in Guwahati, Chennai, Bangalore, and Jaipur.

    Wide-reaching Raids and Investigations

The NIA’s statement revealed that these raids spanned a total of 55 locations across states and union territories, including Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Rajasthan, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and Pondicherry. The initial FIR, registered by the Assam Police’s Special Task Force, pertained to a human trafficking network responsible for facilitating the infiltration and settlement of illegal migrants, including Rohingyas, from the Indo-Bangladesh border into India.

The statement explained, “Recognizing the international and inter-state linkages of the case and its complexity, the NIA formally took charge of the investigations.” Different modules of this illegal human trafficking network were found operating in various states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir. In response to these findings, the NIA registered three additional cases to dismantle the modules of this extensive network spread across the country.

The coordinated raids, carried out in the early morning hours of November 8, resulted in the recovery of various significant items, such as digital devices, identity-related documents, Indian and foreign currency, and other evidence. A total of 44 individuals were apprehended and arrested by the NIA across different states.
