She will succeed Republican Governor Bill Lee, who was barred from seeking another term due to term limits. Green is a member of the Memphis City Council.

Pastor Adam Hamilton ousts GOP Senator Roger Marshall, Democrats' 1st Senate win in Kansas in 94 years

Democrat Adam Hamilton, a Methodist megachurch pastor, pulled off a major upset in Kansas by defeating Republican Senator Roger Marshall and flipping a seat long considered safely Republican. His victory reflects growing dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump across the country.

Hamilton ended a 94-year losing streak for Kansas Democrats in Senate elections, the longest such run in the nation. The campaign also saw record spending of around $110 million, an unprecedented amount for a state where Senate races have traditionally been relatively inexpensive. Republicans mounted an extensive effort to save Marshall, including two Trump rallies in Kansas in October, but failed to secure his reelection.

Hamilton appealed to moderate Republicans and independent voters frustrated by the rising cost of living and Trump's handling of the economy and the war with Iran. He also pledged to challenge the deep political divisions in Washington.

His fundraising far exceeded Marshall's, particularly through contributions from Kansas residents, while Democratic groups invested tens of millions of dollars in the state. The party's campaign overcame efforts by Trump and Vice President JD Vance to rally Republican support through campaign events in the final weeks.

Democrat John Olszewski has won re-election to the US House of Representatives from Maryland's 2nd Congressional District, retaining his seat for another term.
