BJP Leaders Demand Sedition Case Against Farooq Abdullah
SRINAGAR, October 24, 2026 [VoM News]: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticised National Conference president Farooq Abdullah over his remarks crediting Pakistan with raising the Kashmir issue internationally, with several party leaders demanding action against the veteran politician.
Speaking at a party workers’ convention in Baramulla, Abdullah questioned the Indian government’s intentions towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir and said Pakistan’s efforts at international forums had helped keep the issue alive.
“Our neighbour (Pakistan) goes everywhere and says that the Kashmir issue has not been resolved. They are protecting us. Otherwise, their (India’s) intentions are not right,” Abdullah said.
The remarks drew a sharp response from BJP leaders, who accused him of echoing Pakistan’s position.
Former Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina described the statement as highly condemnable and called for a sedition case against Abdullah.
BJP spokesperson RP Singh urged the National Conference leader to look at the situation across the border, arguing that Jammu and Kashmir had benefited from the abrogation of Article 370 and subsequent developments.
Other BJP leaders, including MLA Yudhvir Sethi, also criticised Abdullah and demanded an apology.
The Congress, which supports the National Conference-led government in Jammu and Kashmir, said Abdullah’s comments could reflect his personal views.
J&K Congress chief Kapil Singh maintained that Pakistan had no right to interfere in India’s internal affairs.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has not publicly responded to his father’s remarks.
