BREAKING: Fort Hood Shooter Nidal Hasan Execution Livestream Plan Trump Cancelled by Trump
WASHINGTON, October 16, 2026 [VoM News]: US President Donald Trump has cancelled plans to livestream the execution of convicted Fort Hood mass shooter Nidal Hasan, following widespread criticism of the proposal.
Trump announced Thursday that Hasan would still be executed by firing squad as scheduled on December 3, but the execution would not be broadcast online. Immediate family members of the victims would be permitted to witness it in person if they wished.
The decision reverses an earlier plan announced by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to make the execution publicly viewable through a livestream.
Hasan was sentenced to death by a military jury in 2013 for killing 13 people and wounding more than 30 others during a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. Twelve of those killed were soldiers.
The livestream proposal drew criticism from US lawmakers from both major parties, religious leaders, retired military officers and international officials. The United Nations had also raised objections to broadcasting the execution.
A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll released Thursday reportedly found that eight in ten Americans opposed livestreaming it.
If carried out, Hasan’s execution would be the first US military execution since 1961 and the first execution by a US military firing squad since 1945.
