Supreme Court Seek CBI Response on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Case Transfer
In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court of India has summoned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to provide a response regarding requests to transfer the trial in the disproportionate assets case involving Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to a different state. This directive was issued by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti, who also instructed Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to submit his response in the matter.
Plea Presented by YSR Congress MP Raghu Ramkrishna
The Supreme Court’s involvement materialized during a hearing on a plea lodged by YSR Congress MP Raghu Ramkrishna, who was represented by legal counsel Balaji Srinivasan and Rohan Dewan. The plea expressed deep concern over the alleged manipulation of state machinery to favor the incumbent Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The petitioner conveyed that their conscience had been profoundly disturbed by these claims.
Accusations of Unlawful Enrichment and Trial Manipulation
The plea laid out grave allegations, contending that the Chief Minister had accumulated substantial wealth—allegedly to the tune of 40,000 crore rupees—through illegal and unjust means. Furthermore, it asserted that the Chief Minister had taken measures to ensure that the criminal trials against him remained dormant, with9 no effective actions being pursued. The petition decried the apparent complacency of state machinery, characterizing it as “silent spectators to this abuse of the processes of the Courts,” thereby likening the criminal trials to what it described as “friendly matches between accused and prosecution.”
Request for Case Transfer to Another Jurisdiction
As a result, the petition called for the case, which is presently under the purview of the Special Judge for CBI Cases in Hyderabad, to be relocated to a court with equivalent competence and jurisdiction in another state. The Principal District Judge at Patiala House Courts in New Delhi was suggested as a suitable alternative jurisdiction for the transfer.
This legal development is poised to be a matter of considerable significance and will continue to attract close attention from the involved parties and the public at large. .
