Satyendar Jain Arrest: Arvind Kejriwal Calls Case Fake, AAP Alleges Political Motive
NEW DELHI, August 18, 2026 [VoM News]: Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has called the latest case against senior party leader Satyendar Jain “fake” after the former minister was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch.
Jain was arrested in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board’s tendering process for sewage treatment plant projects. The ACB said the case involves alleged manipulation of tender conditions, criminal conspiracy and other financial irregularities. Six people have been arrested in the case.
Kejriwal alleged that Jain’s arrest was carried out at the BJP’s direction and said the previous case against him had also been fabricated. The AAP has linked the action to the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
According to the investigation cited in the report, four tenders related to the upgradation of 10 sewage treatment plants were awarded in October 2022 at a combined value of Rs 1,943 crore. The initial estimated cost was around Rs 1,546 crore and was later revised, with investigators alleging that due process was not followed.
Jain was previously arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in May 2022 in a money laundering case and remained in jail for about 18 months before receiving bail in October 2024. He has also been chargesheeted in cases involving alleged hawala transactions and disproportionate assets.
The ED has separately accused Jain in a case linked to alleged irregularities in the construction of classrooms in Delhi government schools.
