Truck-Bus Collision Kills 13, Injures 34 on Cairo-Asyut Highway in Egypt

CAIRO, October 20, 2026 [VoM News]: As per details available with VoM News, at least 13 people were killed and 34 others injured after a large truck collided with a tour bus west of the Egyptian capital on Tuesday.

Egypt’s Al-Ahram newspaper reported that the crash occurred on the Cairo-Asyut Western Desert Road, leaving the bus extensively damaged.

The entire front section of the bus was ripped apart in the collision, while passenger seats and mangled debris were scattered along the roadside. Authorities deployed a crane to remove the wrecked vehicle and clear the highway.

The injured were transported to a hospital in Giza for treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances and cause of the collision.

Road accidents remain a major safety concern in Egypt. Nearly 6,000 people were killed in traffic accidents across the country last year, according to figures from Egypt’s state statistics agency.

Last month, 22 people, including 10 Jordanian tourists, were killed in a bus crash in Sinai. In August, at least 18 people, many of them children, died when two pickup trucks carrying agricultural labourers collided in northern Egypt.

Authorities had not immediately released further details about the identities of those killed in Tuesday’s crash.
