Gaza Disarmament to Commence in 30 days: Trump’s Envoy Jared Kushner

JERUSALEM, August 18, 2026 [VoM News]: The United States envoy, Jared Kushner, said on Monday progress on disarming Hamas and moving the Gaza peace deal forward could start within a month following a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as per AFP report.

The White House advisor stated that within 30 days weapons can be removed from Hamas and the tunnel system addressed. Kushner held talks with Netanyahu in Jerusalem following direct negotiations with representatives of Hamas in Cairo.

An Israeli official indicated that an agreement was reached by the parties whereby a U.S. General would head an initial phase of Hamas’ disarming. According to the source, no Israeli withdrawal or rebuilding will take place in the territory before disarming Hamas throughout the whole region.

The understanding is that the effort by the Trump administration is aimed at preventing the Gaza peace process from stalling after the American proposal faced public objection by Netanyahu. The Hamas on July 30 agreed with a roadmap including disarming by the International Stabilization Force, led by a US Major General, Jasper Jeffers.

The Hamas has vowed to give up its arms to a new Palestinian authority; AFP said Hamas assured Kushner that it was determined with the plan and that the US needed to put more pressure on Netanyahu.

Former UK Premier, Tony Blair, as well as other members of Trump’s Board of Peace, also attended the negotiations.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 1,265 Palestinians have died as a result of Israeli operations since a ceasefire went into effect on Oct. 10. The Israeli army has reported five of its soldiers deceased.
