27-Year-Old Dies After Alleged Police Beating, Sparks Protests

Jammu, July 29 – A tragic incident has unfolded in Jammu, where a 27-year-old man, Shubam Sharma, lost his life under mysterious circumstances after allegedly being beaten by the police.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when Sharma was playing cricket near his home in Bantalab, a locality on the outskirts of Jammu. A police team had conducted a raid in the area in search of drug traffickers, leading to an altercation.
According to Sharma’s family, he was detained by the police during the raid and severely beaten. They claim that the officers left the scene after the assault.
Sharma was subsequently rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
In response to the incident, Sharma’s relatives and neighbors took to the streets on Monday morning, blocking the main road in Bantalab. They demanded a detailed inquiry into the incident and called for justice for Sharma, who was the sole breadwinner of his family, working as an electrician.
His younger sister, Shivani, expressed their distress and insistence on accountability.
Senior police and civil officials have been deployed to the area to manage the situation. They have assured the protesters that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the allegations against the police.
