25 Candidates File Nominations for Anantnag-Rajouri LS Polls in JK
Anantnag Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid revealed that 25 candidates have submitted nomination papers for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat in Jammu and Kashmir. Hamid clarified that out of the 28 nomination papers received, three candidates submitted their papers twice, resulting in a total of 25 candidates.
The scrutiny of these nominations is scheduled for Saturday at 10 am. Candidates have until April 22 to withdraw their nominations, and symbol allotment is set for April 23. Key candidates in this constituency include PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference’s Mian Altaf, Apni Party’s Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, and Democratic Progressive Azad Party’s Mohammad Saleem Parray.
Lok Sabha Elections in Jammu and Kashmir
Voting commenced in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur constituency for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. The voter turnout in Udhampur was recorded at 68.27%. This election marks the first Lok Sabha poll in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. Elections for the five seats in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled in five phases.
Udhampur voted on Friday, Jammu is set for April 26, Anantnag-Rajouri on May 7, Srinagar on May 13, and Baramulla on May 20. Previously, Jammu and Kashmir had six seats including Ladakh. However, following the abrogation of Article 370, Ladakh no longer has a Lok Sabha constituency. In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured three seats, and the National Conference won the remaining three.
