13 Security Personnel and 22 Terrorists Lose Lives in the Region in the Current Year
In the current year, a total of 45 individuals lost their lives in three districts of Jammu, with officials reporting 13 security personnel and 25 terrorists among the casualties. The surge in violence has been attributed to what authorities describe as “desperate attempts from across the border” aimed at reigniting terrorism in the region.
Tragically, the casualties encompassed two army officers who perished during an ongoing anti-terrorist operation in the Bajimaal area of Rajouri district. Prior to this, two separate ambushes occurred on April 20 in the Mendhar area of Poonch and on May 5 in the Kandi forest of Rajouri, claiming the lives of 10 soldiers, including five commandos.
Authorities disclosed that since the beginning of the year, 45 deaths have been recorded in terrorism-related incidents within the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, as well as the nearby Reasi district. Rajouri witnessed the demise of 20 terrorists and the loss of six security personnel, while Poonch reported 15 terrorists and five security personnel fatalities. Additionally, three terrorists were neutralized in Reasi district.
Notably, a majority of the terrorists met their end while attempting to infiltrate the border. The recent encounter in Rajouri closely followed another gunfight in Behrote, Budhal area, on November 17, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist. Officials attribute the increase in such confrontations to substantial counter-terrorist operations by security agencies.
These efforts are aimed at thwarting persistent endeavors from across the border to revive terrorism in the Jammu region and alleviate pressure on terrorists operating in the Kashmir Valley.Throughout the course of this year, a total of 117 individuals, comprising 81 terrorists and 23 security personnel, have lost their lives in terror-related violence in Jammu and Kashmir.
Among the fallen are an Army colonel and a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) who sacrificed their lives during a week-long operation in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
