Warner Surpasses Waugh: Australia’s 2nd Highest Run-Scorer
In the recent Boxing Day Test against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australian opener David Warner achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the legendary Steve Waugh to become the second-highest run-scorer for Australia.
During the first innings, Warner displayed a composed innings, accumulating 38 runs off 83 balls, including three boundaries. This accomplishment elevated Warner’s career total to 18,515 runs in 371 international appearances, boasting an impressive average of 42.56. His remarkable record comprises 49 centuries and 93 fifties, with a highest score of 335*.
Warner now stands just below the iconic Ricky Ponting (27,368 runs) in the all-time run-scoring list for Australia, having overtaken Steve Waugh’s tally of 18,496 runs. Warner’s career statistics include 8,689 runs in 111 Test matches at an average of 44.78, featuring 26 centuries and 36 fifties. In ODIs, he has amassed 6,932 runs at an average of 45.30, with 22 centuries and 33 fifties, while in T20Is, he has contributed 2,894 runs at an average of 32.88, including a century and 24 fifties.
In the recent match, Australia, after being put in to bat by Pakistan, saw a solid 90-run partnership between Warner and Usman Khawaja, followed by a notable 60-run collaboration between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne. Contributions from Mitchell Marsh (41) propelled Australia to a total of 318 runs. Aamer Jamal, with figures of 3/64, emerged as the standout bowler for Pakistan, supported by Hasan Ali, Mir Hamza, and Shaheen, each claiming two wickets, while Agha Salman secured one.
