Violent Clash in Haldwani Over Madrasa Demolition: Five Dead, Curfew in Place
Five individuals lost their lives in the widespread violence erupting over the demolition of an illegal madrasa in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The demolitions, carried out with a heavy police presence, aimed to clear government land allegedly encroached upon by the madrasa. Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Meena stated that the demolitions were in compliance with a court order. However, the clash resulted in over 100 security personnel injuries, with several officials, municipal workers, and journalists caught in the crossfire. The violent escalation included stone-pelting, arson, and clashes with law enforcement. Around 50 individuals have been taken into custody, and police are registering cases against 5,000 unidentified people.
