MUSCAT, August 18, 2026 [VoM News]: As per Reuters, a vessel was struck by an unknown projectile while sailing out of the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday.
The vessel’s engine room got damaged and one crew member have recieved injured, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.
The remaining crew members were assisted by the Omani Coast Guard following the incident.
No environmental damage has been reported, while authorities are investigating the cause and circumstances of the strike.
The incident comes as commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains sharply reduced amid the ongoing conflict and stalled peace efforts between the United States and Iran.
Reuters reported that vessel movements through the strategic waterway remained in the single digits on Monday, compared with more than 130 crossings a day before the war.
Kpler shipping data showed that six commodity vessels crossed the strait Monday, with three entering the Gulf and three leaving it. The 10-day average was 11 vessels per day. Three ships crossed on Saturday and two on Sunday.
No very large crude carriers or LNG tankers were recorded passing through the waterway.
