He urged the nation to embrace the bill, countering rumors within the Muslim community that label it as anti-Islamic.

Chairman’s Assertion: UCC and Islamic Faith Harmony

In an interview with ANI, Shadab Shams expressed his belief that the UCC bill should be accepted by the nation. He debunked claims that the bill contradicts Islamic principles and asserted that, from the perspective of the Quran, adhering to the UCC does not pose any issues. Shams criticized those opposing the bill, stating that true Muslims do not find fault with the UCC, and opposition often stems from political affiliations with parties like Congress or the Samajwadi Party.

Historic Day: UCC Bill Passes with Majority in Uttarakhand Assembly

The UCC bill received substantial support during a special session of the Uttarakhand assembly, marking a historic day for the state. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami hailed the passage of the UCC bill, emphasizing its benefits for all sections of society. The legislation proposes uniform laws for all communities, addressing aspects like live-in relationships, child marriage, divorce, and equal property rights for women.

Key Provisions of the UCC Bill: Addressing Marriage, Divorce, and Rights

The UCC Bill mandates registration of “live-in relationships” within one month of initiation, requiring parental consent for adults involved. It imposes a complete ban on child marriage and introduces a uniform divorce process. Equal rights for women in ancestral property are ensured. The age for marriage is set at 18 for women and 21 for men across all communities. Marriage registration becomes mandatory, and divorces are restricted after one year of marriage.
