LinkedIn has long been a trusted space for networking, job searching, and staying informed on industry trends. Now, the platform has introduced another way to help job seekers develop valuable skills—interactive daily games. And according to one expert, these games can actually improve your chances of landing a job.

“LinkedIn’s games let you engage in quick, fun challenges that can sharpen your problem-solving abilities, improve cognitive flexibility, and even create networking opportunities,” says Neal Taparia, the founder of 1000 Mines, an online gaming platform that modernizes the classic Minesweeper experience.

Below, Neal explains how, by participating regularly, players can enhance the same analytical and strategic thinking skills that employers look for in top candidates.

Play, Think, Succeed: How LinkedIn Games Work

LinkedIn’s gaming feature offers a way to challenge and strengthen your thinking skills. The platform currently provides four games that can each be played once per day; each one requires strategy, logic, and quick thinking.

    – Pinpoint: In this word-association game, players must identify a common theme among five words. The words will reveal one by one, and the challenge lies in guessing the category with as few words as possible.

“Playing Pinpoint sharpens your pattern recognition and associative thinking,” says Neal. “This is valuable for roles that require quick problem-solving and decision-making.”

    – Crossclimb: This is a unique combination of a crossword puzzle and a word ladder. Players solve individual clues to find four words, then rearrange their answers so that each word differs from the one above or below it by just one letter. When all four words in the middle have been correctly guessed, the words at the top and bottom are available for guessing.

“Crossclimb is helpful because it develops adaptability and logical reasoning, both of which are useful in fast-paced work environments,” says Neal.

    – Queens: A logic puzzle inspired by Sudoku and chess’s classic eight queens problem. Players must place a ‘queen’ (represented by a crown symbol) on a grid so that no two queens share the same row, column, or color region. This game encourages strategic thinking and spatial awareness.

    – Tango: A grid-based logic game that requires players to fill each cell with either a sun or a moon while following strict placement rules. No more than two of the same symbol can be placed next to each other, and certain symbols must be matched or separated according to given constraints.

“Tango is the newest game to be added to LinkedIn’s roster, and it’s a fantastic addition as it improves players’ attention to detail and deduction skills, both of which are valuable in data-driven and analytical roles,” says Neal.

New puzzles are released daily at midnight Pacific Time, and while there are no prizes, players can share scores, track streaks, and compete with their connections.

The Role Of Problem-Solving In Career Success

“Employers consistently rank problem-solving and analytical thinking among the top soft skills they seek in candidates, so these games might help more than you think,” says Neal. “These abilities help professionals navigate workplace challenges, make informed decisions, and adapt to rapidly changing industries. Whether you’re troubleshooting a technical issue, optimizing a business process, or negotiating a deal, strong problem-solving skills set you apart.”

The Science Behind Gamification And Cognitive Growth

Research backs up the benefits of gamification for cognitive development. Studies have shown that puzzle-based games can improve memory, boost processing speed, and enhance cognitive flexibility—all valuable for workplace success. By engaging in structured mental challenges, job seekers can keep their minds sharp, making them more effective in interviews and on the job.

Making The Most Of LinkedIn’s Games For Your Job Search

“So how can job seekers leverage these games to their advantage? Below, I’ll give you a few ideas,” says Neal.

    – Incorporate Games Into Your Daily Routine: This helps you stay mentally sharp before interviews or work tasks.

    – Use Them As An Icebreaker: Sharing your game scores with connections can be a great conversation starter.

    – Track Your Progress: Metrics like streaks and leaderboards help you measure your improvement over time.

Neal Taparia, the founder of 1000 Mines, commented:

“In today’s job market, problem-solving and adaptability are more valuable than ever. Employers are looking for candidates who can think on their feet, analyze data effectively, and find creative solutions. Tools like LinkedIn Games provide an easy, engaging way for job seekers to improve these skills while providing opportunities for networking at the same time.

“Incorporating game-based learning into your job search strategy is great because it’s entertaining and a smart move for career growth. So, the next time you log into LinkedIn, don’t just scroll—play, think, and get one step closer to landing your next job!”
