US Military Plans 90-Day Self-Sufficiency for Bases Under FORTRESS Programme

US Military Plans 90-Day Self-Sufficiency for Bases Under FORTRESS Programme

WASHINGTON, October 27, 2026 (VoM News): To protect the domestic military bases and keep them operational, the United States military is full mood of preparing plans.

The plans are being made for about 90 days, without relying on civilian electricity, water, fuel and other essential supplies under a programme called FORTRESS, reveals the media reports.

The initiative aims to ensure military installations across the continental United States can continue functioning if a major conflict disrupts civilian infrastructure and supply chains.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell while interacting with Fox News Digital that depending entirely on municipal services posed an unacceptable risk to national defence.

“Power is combat now,” Parnell said, warning that electricity failures could disrupt communications, water supplies, logistics and military command systems.

The programme includes plans for portable nuclear reactors, large-scale battery storage and microgrids capable of operating independently of the main electricity network.

The initiative also seeks to secure access to fuel, water and communications during prolonged emergencies.

The Pentagon is reportedly examining ways to help civilian manufacturing facilities shift to defence production during a crisis, potentially sustaining supplies of essential military equipment during a major conflict.

Parnell said the United States could no longer assume that the Atlantic and Pacific oceans would provide sufficient protection against external threats.

He described the programme as part of preparations for a major emergency, stressing that contingency plans must be developed before a global conflict begins rather than during one.
