The spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres refrains from terming it a massacre but describes the incident in Gaza as “appalling” and emphasizes the need for further investigation to identify the perpetrators.

During a noon briefing, the spokesperson faced questions from journalists pressing for clarity on the condemnation and reluctance to attribute responsibility to Israel.

He clarified that the UN was not directly involved in the aid delivery and had paused operations in northern Gaza due to safety concerns.

The deconfliction mechanism with the Israeli military was reported to be ineffective.

Efforts are underway to resume food delivery once a ceasefire is achieved.
