UK PM Expresses Concern as Tensions Over Gaza Lead to ‘Mob Rule’
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak voiced alarm over the rise of “mob rule” in the UK amid tensions surrounding Israel’s war on Gaza.
Lawmakers are facing abuse for expressing their views, prompting concerns for their safety. Sunak emphasized the urgent need to collectively address and change this situation during a meeting with police chiefs.
“We simply cannot allow this pattern of increasingly violent and intimidatory behaviour,” stated Sunak, highlighting the importance of preserving free debate and enabling elected representatives to fulfill their duties.
The UK’s Home Office has allocated approximately £31 million ($39 million) in additional funding to the police to enhance the protection of British lawmakers and other officials.
