Two Earthquakes Jolt Kashmir Valley, No Damage Reported

On Tuesday morning, two back-to-back earthquakes rattled the Kashmir Valley, prompting residents to rush out of their homes in panic. The tremors were felt across various parts of the region, sparking concern among the population.

Despite the intensity of the quakes, authorities have not received any reports of damage or casualties so far. Emergency services are on high alert as they continue to assess the situation and determine the full impact. The first earthquake strikes at around 6:45 am, national centre for seismology tweeted a thread in this regard, reads as, “EQ of M: 4.9, On: 20/08/2024 06:45:57 IST, Lat: 34.17 N, Long: 74.16 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir.”

Another earthquake, measuring 4.8 magnitude occurred, at 06:52:29 IST in Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir. The earthquake’s epicenter was located at a latitude of 34.20°N and a longitude of 74.31°E, with a depth of 10 kilometers. This was confirmed by the national centre for seismology.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant, follow safety protocols, and be prepared for possible aftershocks.
