Late Saturday night, a tragic accident occurred in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district when an oil tanker veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Machil, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving another injured.

The incident, which has left the local community in shock, took place when the tanker, registered under number JK02DG 9805, was traveling from Kupwara.

According to officials, the tanker lost control and skidded off the road, leading to the fatal plunge into the gorge. Emergency services were promptly alerted, and rescue operations were initiated. Sadly, two people lost their lives in the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Jasbir Singh, son of Gareeb Singh, from Balshama Sunderbani Rajouri, and Unkush Choudary, son of Paramjit, a resident of Nowshara.

Another individual, Anu Sharma, son of Sunath Lal Sharma from Sunderbani District Rajouri, sustained injuries in the accident.

He was immediately provided with medical attention, and his condition is currently being monitored by healthcare professionals.

Following the accident, both bodies were transported to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kupwara for medico-legal formalities.

The police have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, seeking to determine the factors that led to the tragic loss of life.

This incident highlights the ongoing risks associated with road travel in the region, particularly in areas prone to treacherous conditions. Authorities are expected to assess the site and review safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
