Tourists Seek Snowy Escapes in Kashmir Amid Unusual Winter Drought
Anjali and her husband Ajit had meticulously planned their trip to Kashmir in January, eagerly anticipating the region’s renowned snowfall. However, their excitement turned to dismay as Kashmir witnessed an unusual lack of significant snowfall that season.
Undeterred by the unexpected turn of events, their travel agents suggested a visit to Sinthan Top, a location that still retained some snow compared to the more prominent destinations in the valley.
“Even though we missed witnessing snowfall, there was still some snow at Sinthan Top. We walked on the snowy terrain, capturing pictures as it was a long-standing wish to experience snow,” shared Anjali.
Much like Anjali, numerous tourists have now incorporated Sinthan Top into their itineraries to capture the winter magic that has been scarce in the valley this season.
Kashmir, renowned for its pristine snow-covered landscapes in winter, is currently experiencing an unusual warmth with a notable absence of significant snowfall. This has led both tourists and locals to explore alternative destinations to embrace the winter charm. Sinthan Top has emerged as the favored spot for those in search of a snowy escape. Equipped with cameras and warm clothing, tourists are making the most of the available snow at Sinthan Top, engaging in various snow-related activities.
“We don’t want to disappoint our guests. Hence, we have included a day trip to Sinthan Top in our itinerary so that they can still enjoy the beauty of snow,” assured Javaid Ahmad Khan, a travel agent.
Similarly, Marchop Top in Ganderbal district is gaining popularity among tourists eager to witness and relish the snow.
“Unfortunately, we haven’t had sufficient snowfall this season. There is some snow in Marchop Top, where a few tourists prefer to visit,” mentioned Mohammad Arif, founder of Cliffhangers India.
Thajwas Glacier in Sonmarg is also drawing a considerable number of tourists who seek the destination to witness the enchanting snow.
Travel agents highlight that these alternative destinations are witnessing a significant influx of tourists in the absence of snowfall in mainland Kashmir.
