Toll Tax Revenue of JK Surges to Rs 436.86 Crore in Five Years

Toll Tax Revenue of JK Surges to Rs 436.86 Crore in Five Years

Jammu and Kashmir’s toll tax revenue has witnessed a significant rise over the past five years, increasing from Rs 130.07 crore in 2019-20 to Rs 436.86 crore in 2023-24, according to data presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Despite this steady growth, J&K remains among the states with the lowest toll collections in India. In comparison, Uttar Pradesh generated Rs 6,695.40 crore, and Rajasthan collected Rs 5,549.48 crore in 2023-24. Even Punjab, which experienced a dip in toll revenue to Rs 282.15 crore in 2020-21, saw a strong rebound, reaching Rs 1,491.94 crore in 2023-24—more than three times J&K’s earnings.

The data highlights a consistent year-on-year increase in J&K’s toll revenue. After declining to Rs 108.75 crore in 2020-21, collections rose to Rs 194.81 crore in 2021-22, followed by a sharp jump to Rs 409.96 crore in 2022-23, before reaching Rs 436.86 crore in 2023-24.

While the upward trend in revenue is promising, J&K’s toll tax earnings still lag behind other states. The figures indicate potential for further growth, driven by infrastructure expansion and improved road connectivity in the region.
