Three Killed, Eight Injured in Bomb Blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, July 5: At least three people were killed and eight others injured when a blast went off in Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, police officials said.
The explosion occurred on a bridge in the Takht-i-Bahi area of Mardan district. The District Police Officer of Mardan, Zahoor Babar Afridi, informed the media that the blast resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left eight others injured, including policemen.
Afridi noted that the police officials appeared to be the primary target of the attack. The explosion took place shortly after a police vehicle had crossed the bridge. Preliminary investigations suggest that an improvised explosive device (IED) had been planted on the bridge, strategically timed to hit the police convoy.
Immediate Response and Rescue Operations
Following the blast, rescue teams, police, and security forces quickly arrived at the scene. The injured were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The authorities have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend those responsible for the attack. Despite the immediate response, no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Context of Increasing Violence
This incident follows a recent surge in violence in the region. Just a day earlier, an explosion in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa claimed the lives of five individuals, including a former member of the Senate.
The consecutive attacks have heightened concerns about the security situation in the province, prompting intensified efforts by law enforcement agencies to prevent further incidents.
The recent uptick in violence highlights the persistent challenges faced by the region in terms of security and stability. As investigations continue, the authorities are under pressure to enhance protective measures and prevent further attacks.
