In a tragic incident, three devotees lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries in a landslide on the Kedarnath Dham trekking route in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district.
The accident occurred around 7:30 am on Sunday near the Chirbasa area along the Gaurikund-Kedarnath route. Devotees were struck by heavy stones and debris falling from the hill, officials said.
Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar reported that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and disaster management teams promptly arrived at the scene and initiated a search and rescue operation.
The deceased have been identified as Kishore Arun Parate (31) from Nagpur, Maharashtra, Sunil Mahadev Kale (24) from Jalna district, Maharashtra, and Anurag Bisht from Rudraprayag.
SDRF sources confirmed that the bodies of the three victims have been recovered from the debris. Eight others were rescued in an injured condition and immediately transported to a hospital for treatment.
The rescue operation is ongoing, with teams working tirelessly to ensure no one is left trapped under the debris.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow over the loss of lives in the landslide. In a post on X, he conveyed his condolences and stated that relief and rescue operations are in full swing at the accident site.
He assured that he is in constant communication with officials to oversee the situation and has directed that the injured receive the best possible medical care.
The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the region to natural calamities, especially during the monsoon season when landslides are more frequent.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, aiming to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims and residents in the area.
