Origins of the Operation

The joint operation by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police was set into motion when Broh and Soom forest belts in Kalakote were cordoned off based on intelligence regarding suspicious movements. The subsequent exchange of fire between the troops and suspected militants occurred when the latter attempted to evade the cordon. This resulted in retaliatory fire and the injury of two Army personnel.
