Three-Day Cordon and Search Operation in Kalakote Pursues Suspected Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir
In the forested expanse of Kalakote in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, a rigorous cordon and search operation has entered its third day as security forces intensify their efforts to locate and apprehend suspected terrorists. The operation was initiated following a confrontation on Monday, during which two Army personnel sustained injuries in a firefight with suspected militants.
Persistent Search Efforts Amid Technological Support
Security forces, in collaboration with local law enforcement, continue their search in the Kalakote forest area. Despite ongoing efforts, as of now, there have been no fresh contacts or engagements with the suspected terrorists. To bolster the operation’s effectiveness, the security forces are employing technological and surveillance equipment, aiding in both vigilance and the tracking of potential terrorist hideouts within the forested terrain. .

Origins of the Operation
The joint operation by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police was set into motion when Broh and Soom forest belts in Kalakote were cordoned off based on intelligence regarding suspicious movements. The subsequent exchange of fire between the troops and suspected militants occurred when the latter attempted to evade the cordon. This resulted in retaliatory fire and the injury of two Army personnel. In response, additional reinforcements were swiftly dispatched to secure potential escape routes and further strengthen the cordon around the area.
Heightened Terrorist Activity in Border Districts
The Rajouri and Poonch border districts, situated in the Pir Panjal valley, have experienced increased terrorist activity throughout the year. This ongoing cordon and search operation underscores the unwavering commitment of security forces to ensure the safety and security of the region, actively countering any potential threats posed by militant groups.
