Switch4Good Expands Campus Action Now Program Across U.S. Universities
LOS ANGELES, Apr 27 (VoM News) — Switch4Good has expanded its Campus Action Now (CAN) initiative, a service-learning programme that partners with universities to combine classroom study with real-world action on food systems, public health and environmental issues.
The organisation said the programme is now active across 31 universities, offering students a structured, three-month engagement where academic learning is tied directly to community-based projects.
Unlike traditional coursework or volunteer work, CAN integrates practical assignments into academic credit. Students work on projects ranging from public health outreach and food equity initiatives to sustainability efforts within campus dining systems.
Faculty members involved in the programme say the model helps bridge theory and practice. Dr. Urmi Ashar, a faculty partner, noted that the initiative aligns closely with themes of public health policy, systemic inequality in food systems and community-driven advocacy.

Students who participated in the programme described it as a hands-on experience that encourages problem-solving beyond the classroom. Participants from institutions including the University of California Berkeley and the University of Missouri said the initiative helped them better understand the intersection of food, environment and health.
As part of its outreach, Switch4Good also released a student-focused digital cookbook titled “The Switch Starts Here,” featuring low-cost, plant-based recipes designed for college settings.
The organisation said the initiative aims to build long-term awareness around sustainable food systems while encouraging behavioural change among younger populations.
