The second day of the Swachhta Pakhwara (Cleanliness Fortnight) under the “Suchita Sangram” initiative saw a series of impactful activities throughout Kishtwar district on August 2, 2024.
Senior officers, including Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, SSP Abdul Qayoom, ACD Phulail Singh, and other officials, led the efforts across educational institutions and government offices.
A significant event took place at Middle School Nagni, Panchayat Hidyal, where the officials, alongside local community members, paid floral tributes to the martyrs of the panchayat. As part of the ongoing ‘Ek Ped Shaheedo Ke Naam’ campaign, a tree was planted in honor of the fallen heroes, and their families were felicitated for their sacrifices.
Throughout the district, the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, in collaboration with other governmental bodies, organized cleanliness drives. These included the segregation of plastic waste, kitchen waste, and other biodegradable materials.
The collected plastic waste was handed over to sanitation workers for recycling, underscoring the district’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Educational institutions were particularly active, with over 2,000 students participating in a quiz competition designed to promote hygiene and cleanliness practices.
Additionally, students created flower vases from waste materials, emphasizing the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling.
Swachhata rallies, awareness campaigns, and pledges further energized the community, involving teachers, students, and local organizations.
The collaborative efforts of the Youth Services & Sports, Education, and Forest Departments also led to successful plantation drives in schools, further reinforcing the initiative’s environmental goals.
This concerted district-wide effort highlights Kishtwar’s growing dedication to fostering a cleaner, healthier environment for all.
