A large number of challans were issued for violations such as speeding, riding without helmets, and ignoring traffic signals, which are among the leading causes of accidents.
SSP Traffic Srinagar, Muzaffar Ahmed Shah said, “Despite issuing 4 lakh challans this year, the number of accidents and fatalities is still alarmingly high. This shows that road safety awareness and enforcement need further strengthening. We must collectively work to change drivers’ mindsets and ensure strict adherence to traffic rules.”
He added that the traffic police are committed to curbing road accidents by increasing patrols, enhancing signage, and conducting public awareness programmes.
Authorities are also considering a review of traffic regulations to better manage the city’s growing traffic volume and improve road safety. (KINS)
