- Stresses the humanitarian and career impact on young individuals detained without trial.
Srinagar, Aug 3: Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Member of Parliament from Srinagar, has called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to release prisoners from Jammu and Kashmir who have been held without trials. This request was made during a meeting with the Home Minister on Friday evening.
In a post on X, Ruhullah shared, “Met the @HMOIndia yesterday evening and asked him for the release of the hundreds of prisoners of J&K who are held without trials for years now.
And also asked for the transfer of those who are under trials and not convicted yet, to the jails of Jammu and Kashmir.” He also attached a copy of the letter he submitted to the Home Minister.
The letter highlighted that many individuals from various regions of the Kashmir Valley are incarcerated, with some being convicted, others under trial, and many detained without any trial.
Ruhullah emphasized that a significant number of these detainees are young individuals, whose detention without trial is not only unjust but detrimental to their futures. He urged the government to release these prisoners at the earliest.
Ruhullah also pointed out the unique weather conditions in Kashmir, urging the transfer of prisoners to facilities within Jammu and Kashmir on humanitarian grounds.
He noted that the harsh weather conditions in other parts of the country make it difficult for prisoners, especially those from Kashmir, and their families who struggle to visit them due to physical and financial constraints.
After being elected as an MP, Ruhullah has consistently advocated for the rights of these prisoners, vowing to fight for their release.
