Spain has officially joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA) as its 99th member. The Instrument of Ratification was handed over by Spain’s Ambassador to India, Jose Maria Ridao Dominguez, to Abhishek Singh, Head of Depository and Joint Secretary (ED and MER) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), during a meeting in New Delhi. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced the milestone on X, celebrating Spain’s commitment to the ISA’s goals.
The International Solar Alliance was jointly launched by India and France during COP21 in Paris. It aims to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement through the extensive deployment of solar energy technologies. The ISA’s mission is to enhance energy access, ensure energy security, and drive the energy transition in its member countries.
Currently, 116 countries have signed the ISA Framework Agreement, and 94 have completed the ratification process to become full members. This growing coalition emphasizes the global shift towards renewable energy and the collaborative effort required to combat climate change.
The recent Sixth Assembly of the ISA, held in New Delhi from October 30 to November 2, 2023, highlighted the progress and future goals of the alliance. Earlier in the year, Panama became the 97th member, further demonstrating the ISA’s expanding influence and commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Spain’s entry into the ISA underscores its dedication to global renewable energy initiatives and strengthens the alliance’s collective efforts towards a sustainable future.
