SIU Presents Charges Against Six Accused in Baramulla
February 5: In a recent development concerning narco-terrorism, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Baramulla has filed a charge sheet in connection with Case FIR No. 104/2023. The charges pertain to violations under Section 7/25 IA Act, 120-B IPC, 13, 18, 18B, 20, 23, and 40 UAP Act of the Police Station Uri. The presentation took place before the Hon’ble Court of Additional Sessions Judge (NIA Court) Baramulla.
The charge sheet implicates six individuals who are currently in judicial custody. The accused are identified as Mohd Aslam Khatana (son of Atta Mohd, resident of Churunda Uri), Muneer Ahmad Din Masi (son of Mohammad Din, resident of Jabla Uri), Bilal Ahmad Dar (son of Gh Mohidin Dar, resident of Hard Shiva Sopore), Akhtar Niyaz Bhat (son of Niyaz Ahmad, resident of Mukhdam Mohalla Tarzoo Sopore), and Mudasir Yousuf Goknu (son of Mohd Yousuf, resident of Bagi Islam Krankshivan Colony Sopore). Additionally, another accused, Mohd Hassan Awan (son of Raj Mohd Awan, resident of Dharkoot Uri, currently residing in Tehsil Bagh PoK), is mentioned in the charge sheet under Section 299 CrPC.
The charges stem from an incident on 11/08/2023 when arms, ammunition, and narcotics were discovered in possession of the five accused individuals at a checkpoint established at Powarian Thajal Uri. Investigations revealed their involvement in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition on the instructions of Pakistan-based terror handlers. The weapons were intended for distribution to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists for carrying out acts of terrorism. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for 20/02/2024, as announced by the Hon’ble Court.
