    Electricity, water supply, and communication networks faced severe disruptions in the Kaza area of Lahaul-Spiti district, Himachal Pradesh, after consecutive days of heavy snowfall on March 2, 3, and 4. The tribal areas in the district experienced a significant impact on normal life due to the relentless snowfall.

    An official from the local administration highlighted the breakdown of the entire communication system in the region, emphasizing that only satellite phones remained operational. The fresh snowfall not only affected communication lines but also hampered power and water supply.

    In addition to the communication challenges, numerous roadways, including three national highways, were closed in the region due to the heavy snowfall. The state disaster management department reported the closure of 346 roads, including three national highways, and disruptions to 365 electricity supply schemes and eight water supply schemes.

    Lahaul-Spiti district bore the brunt of the snowfall, with two national highways and 260 roads closed. Additionally, 155 electricity supply schemes in the district faced disruptions. Notably, an avalanche struck Lahaul’s Tandi Bridge on March 3, partially burying shops, but fortunately, no casualties or major losses were reported in the incident.
