A severe road accident occurred at Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, resulting in the death of seven tourists. The vehicle, carrying eight people, including seven tourists and a driver, skidded off the icy road and plunged into a deep gorge.

The Sonamarg police conducted rescue operations immediately after the incident. Four survivors were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the tourists who lost their lives were from Kerala.

The driver, identified as Ajaz Ahmad Awan, suffered critical injuries and has been referred to SKIMS Soura for advanced medical care.

Previous Accident in Doda

This tragic event follows another major accident in the region last month, where a bus carrying 55 passengers fell into a gorge near Doda, leading to the death of at least 36 people.

These incidents highlight the dangers of mountainous roads in the region, especially under adverse weather conditions, and underscore the importance of enhanced road safety measures and emergency response protocols.
